UX Approach

These are the key stages I'd follow when approaching a product or piece of functionality. The work will define what areas I'd focus on more, the UX deliverables I'd produce and how long each would take. I like to work in a Agile Scrum environment and it's key for me to make the following work

Align

Understanding the Users, Business Goals and Scope of the Product. Looking at creating product Roadmaps and User Journey's. If working with a new team I'd manage expectations and explain desired deliverable's. I'm a huge advocate for working closely with team members such as; System Testers and Software Developers and would try and bring them into the subsequent stages

Learn

Conduct qualitative (Field Studies, 1-2-1 Interviews, Focus Groups, Participatory Design, Card Sorting, Diary Studies, Customer Feedback) and quantitative (Surveys, Card Sorting, Concept Testing, A/B Testing, Remote Usability Studies, Click Analysis) research on the users and create Personas, User Stories and Task Flows. If the product already exist I'd carry on with Product Heuristics and compare User Journeys

Ideate

Start whiteboarding with team, inc Software Developers, Stakeholders, System Testers etc. Using other techniques, such as Storyboarding and acting within workshops to have the ability to create a feature matrix, look at the IA and potential User Scenarios.

Plan

Start planning and prioritising User Cases/ User Stories within backlog and future sprints. Work with Product Owner, Scrum Master and Stakeholders regarding resources. Set expectations with a UX Plan Roadmap and how we want to work together to deliver an awesome product. By this point I hope to have worked extremely closely to most people involved in building this product/ feature so that we are all aligned and bought in to make this great!

Define

Start to make wireframes and prototypes based on all prior research, test those with the Users and align with Business Goals and Stakeholders. Guerilla test within the sprints and iterate where necessary. Work on a Style guide and the Visual design.

Evolve

Measure and Evolve by looking at Analytics, Market Validation and carry out more User Testing. The more thorough the 'Learn' section is, the better the outcome and User Testing could have more focus on User Validation.
